Rebecca Bennett is an award winning film & TV producer based in Sydney, Australia.
For the past two years Rebecca has been working as a producer and development producer at Emmy award winning factual production company Stranger Than Fiction Films (Mountain, River, Harley & Katya). She recently produced three-part docu-series Australia: An Unofficial History for SBS alongside Jo-anne McGowan, using the rarely seen archives of the 1970s Australian Government Film Unit, the series uncovers a tension at the heart of the nation: the polished image Australia projected to the world versus the raw, unvarnished reality unfolding on the ground.
Rebecca’s feature documentary Ghosthunter (Dir: Ben Lawrence) premiered internationally at Sheffield Docfest in 2018 and at the Sydney Film Festival, where it won the Documentary Australia Foundation award. After a successful international festival run, Ghosthunter was nominated for four AACTA awards, including best feature documentary. It also took home the award for best editing and an AWGIE for best writing.
Rebecca’s next feature doc Streetside (Dir: Pete Ward & JP McElwee) about 26 year old trainee Daniel Nour, who started a mobile medical service out of the back of a van to treat people who were not coming to the hospital. This verite feature documentary follows Daniel as the service expands around Australia and he struggles to juggle his work as a registrar dr, his personal life and meeting the growing need of people on the streets. The film recently won the AIDC Factory pitch Shark Island Institute development funds.
Rebecca was an EP on Sisyfos Films (Scheme Birds)feature doc The Scars of Ali Boulala, which premiered at Tribeca 2021.
Rebecca executive-produced one of Audible’s first Australian Audio Original podcasts. The Ghosthunter podcast was reviewed as one of the top 5 scary podcasts by Rolling Stone Magazine.
Rebecca is also a well-respected TV commercial producer with over 15 years' experience, specialising in high-end TV commercials, music videos and digital content - shooting both locally and internationally. Having produced through companies including Exit Films, 13&Co, The Feds and Jungleboys. Rebecca has produced for many of Australia’s award-winning commercial and music video directors, such as Patrick Fileti, Jesse James McElroy, Lizzy Bailey and Ben Lawrence, for Australia’s biggest agencies, brands and government departments.
Rebecca takes a strong interest in social justice issues and is passionate about storytelling.
